Here are a few articles I rounded up from the web on Christmas and the pulps. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.
Christmas in Pulp Magazine Land!
Christmas Art – Pulp Magazine style!
Merry Christmas – Men’s Adventure Magazine style… (Warning: NSFW)
The first article, "Christmas in Pulp Magazine Land!" simply does not know what they are talking about. They even say that the western pulps never took advantage of the Christmas holidays, etc. Which is completely incorrect.
The Street & Smith pulps were known for their holiday covers and special issues full of Christmas stories. For over 30 years, I've made a tradition of reading the special Christmas issues from such titles as WESTERN STORY, DETECTIVE STORY, and POPULAR MAGAZINE. And not only Street & Smith celebrated Christmas. The Munsey title, ARGOSY, had Christmas covers and stories as did another non-Munsey title, RANCH ROMANCES.
Just thought I'd act like Scrooge and give my Bah Humbug reaction to the article. Merry Christmas Sai!. I enjoy PULP FLAKES alot.
Thank you for these articles and Happy Holidays to you and yours!
